The Department of Fish and Game works to preserve the state's natural resources. We exercise responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them.

MassWildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals. MassWildlife restores, protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy.


Fall Chinook salmon regulations for the Klamath Basin are adopted each year by the California Fish and Game Commission at their May meeting. As a result, digital publication of all supplemental regulations content is not completed until early Summer and can be after the July 1 start of the Spring Chinook salmon fishery on the Klamath and Trinity rivers. see the 2022-2023 Supplemental Regulations (PDF) (opens in new tab).


Sport fishing regulations for the American, Feather, Mokelumne and Sacramento rivers are adopted each year by the California Fish and Game Commission at their May meeting.
